Who We Are

Is a remote-friendly startup software company located in the Boston area. We leverage the latest technologies to develop cutting edge digital SaaS tools that change the way large insurance brokers manage everyday tasks. Our team is still small but we are growing rapidly, and we are seeking talented individuals and leaders who are excited to take this journey with us and have a massive impact on our product.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to drive product development and support in expanding our engineering team. You will work directly with our founders to lead development efforts for our core product. Our ideal candidate is a product-savvy hands-on leader comfortable with working as a principal level engineer and as a mentor for junior talent within our growing team. You will have the opportunity to define the future of our engineering structure and culture, and provide critical input into the evolution of our product.


Core Responsibilities

● Work with our founders and technical leaders to define and refine vision, architecture, and stack; lead the effort to make timely technical decisions

● Lead a team of 5-7 engineers (to start) in the development of our core web platform

● Coordinate outsourced engineering effort from teams with differing skill sets

● Support in scaling our engineering team as we continue to grow

● Communicate effectively with domain experts and product owners to deliver value

● Determine and communicate engineering best practices, mentor junior talent

● Contribute to hiring decisions, create a hiring process for identifying engineering talent

● Stay close to the product, guide the process to ensure accurate and timely delivery

● Define and manage engineering team culture

● Represent the engineering team during sales calls

• The Director role will initially be 50% management and 50% coding. As time goes on and the team grows the role will become mostly management. We want a seasoned person that has experience managing people and delivering product using best practices. This person will be a bridge between the founders and the engineering team and will make sure everyone is rowing in the same direction and things don’t fall through the cracks. They will also be involved with architecting the platform and be expected to plan for the future

Must Have

● 5+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role including at least 3 years leading software engineering teams of 5+ people

● Substantial background working with native Javascript and common Javascript frameworks including

React and/or Angular, with React strongly preferred.

● Expert knowledge in Node & Node microservice architecture

● Practical experience delivering working code under tight deadlines

● Mentorship and training experience, comfort working with junior talent in a startup environment

● Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

● Passion for architecture and building products from scratch

● Prior experience building secure and robust cloud-based SaaS applications

● Strong experience working in agile environments and applying agile methodologies in a highly flexible product environment

● Proficiency in system designs problem solving

● Experience with database technologies including SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.

● Passion for dissecting complex systems and creating user psychology-driven products


Good to Have


● Experience building server-rendered applications using Next.JS

● Exposure to designing and/or building rule-based systems

● Proficiency in document parsing, NLP, OCR, and similar tools and techniques
